Delta and Avis team up on SkyMiles

25 Jun 2007

Travellers using Delta Air Lines could snare a welcome increase in SkyMiles – the airline's air miles reward programme - thanks to a new deal with Avis Rent A Car.

Under an agreement stuck between Avis and Delta, SkyMiles members will be able to earn 1,000 bonus miles and 1,000 Medallion Qualification Miles by hiring an Avis or Budget car through delta.com or one of the firm's reservation agents.

Those using the service can book their car reservations online through the Delta site and will build up their reward-points, as well as being eligible for other offers such as special bonus mileage and other discounts.

Jeff Robertson, managing director of the SkyMiles programme, said the move was an 'exciting incentive' which offered customers more opportunities to earn travel-related rewards.

SkyMiles members can earn up to 5,000 bonus miles on eligible vehicles with Avis.

Delta Air Lines operates in more than 50 countries with Latin America and the Caribbean among its key routes.

Reward air miles for passengers have become a popular incentive to attract holidaymakers, with corporate users particularly prominent in embracing the trend when it first emerged during the start of the 1980s.
