Virgin launches Glasgow to Orlando link
25 Jun 2007
Holidaymakers flying between Scotland and the US have begun using a new service from Virgin Atlantic after the airline launched a Glasgow to Orlando route.
The maiden voyage took place this weekend and was sent off by a live Scottish band serenading passengers and crew as they waited on the concourse at Glasgow International.
One of four consecutive Saturday flights to run during the Scottish school holidays, the service is designed to offer families a chance to get away during the break.
Additional flights will be held in half-term, from 6 October, which will again run on a weekly schedule.
Gordon Dewar, managing director of Glasgow International Airport, said he was 'delighted' at the news.
'The new service has already proved a phenomenal success, and next year's expanded programme is already selling well, proving that Scotland is well capable of sustaining world class airlines such as Virgin Atlantic,' he added.
Passengers will be able to enjoy what Virgin say is the 'longest fully flat bed in the world with a proper mattress and duvet', as well as sample the private onboard bar on the Upper Class suite.
Virgin says it is also planning to operate more flights on selected days in April, June, July and October next year.
