Helsinki 'offers finest gourmet eating'
27 Jun 2007
Helsinki, the capital of Finland, is a culinary hotspot of the highest calibre, perfect for gourmet aficionados and those looking for excellent quality dining while on holiday, the Finnish Tourist Board has said.
With a plethora of Michelin starred establishments and fantastic bars promising the best possible nights out, Helsinki features a great variety of style, tradition and entertainment, when it comes to eating out. Next month will also see the crayfish season reach its peak in the Scandinavian city.
The HelsinkiMenu project, which was established in 2000 as part of the city's 450th anniversary celebrations, contributes to the cultural dimension of Finnish food by promoting local gastronomy.
It also encourages restaurants to use high-quality ingredients while continuing to offer reasonable prices, thereby ensuring that visitors can taste the very best of Helsinki.
Anne Lind, director of the Finnish Tourist Board, commented: 'Helsinki has established a great reputation as a "cool" capital in recent years. This is underpinned by a wide range of nightlife, a distinctive energy and pulse.
'Whether you seek elegance and refinement or non-stop pace and sound in a cafe, gay bar, pub, nightclub or the panelled walls of a chic hotel interior, Helsinki has just the venue for you.'
