Stress-heads in Madrid offered unique therapy

3 Jul 2007

A collection of the most stressed-out people in Spain have been gathered in the capital city of Madrid and ordered to demolish a luxury hotel, as a new form of stress relief therapy.

Armed with heavy duty mallets, the team is being let loose on the 146-roomed NH Alcala hotel, where they are granted free reign to let out their aggression and pent up stress any way they like.

Knocking down walls, smashing windows and ripping up carpets are all prescribed facets of the destructive treatment. There will even be hydraulic drill operators in the rooms to really help things get going.

'The [team] will become exhausted after so many hammer blows and that helps release endorphins that help us feel much better,' explained psychologist Laura Carcia Augustin.

As well as releasing some pent up stress, the destruction will also pave the way for the planned renovation of the 11 year-old NH Alcala hotel. Once the renovation is complete, the stress team will be invited to spend a night in the luxury hotel, situated in the heart of Madrid.
