'Dracula's Castle' put up for sale
3 Jul 2007
Archduke Dominic Habsburg, heir of Romania's former royal family has put 'Dracula's Castle' in Transylvania up for sale this week.
He is hoping to find a buyer for Bran Castle, which sits on a cliff near Brasov in central Romania, who will 'respect the property and its history'.
The castle is one of the country's top tourist attractions because of its links to Prince Vlad the Impalor, the Romanian warlord who also went by the name of Dracula and inspired the character in Bram Stoker's classic 1897 tale.
Bran Castle was built in the fifteenth century as a fortress to offer protection from the invading Ottoman Empire and the legend goes that Dracula spent a night there in the 1400s.
Archduke Habsburg pledged to keep the castle open as a museum until 2009, but has offered to sell the historic property if the right buyer presents an offer.
