Heathrow expects 850,000 passengers in 3 days

19 Jul 2007

London Heathrow Airport has warned holidaymakers planning to travel via the airport from 27 to 30 July that more than 850,000 passengers are expected.

The UK airport, which is the busiest in the world for international passenger traffic, is advising holidaymakers to arrive at the airport clued up and prepared on security procedures in order to ensure they can reach their destinations as soon as possible.

It has reminded passengers that liquids can only be carried in hand luggage in bottles of 100ml or less, contained in a small clear plastic bag and must be presented for inspection at airport security separately. Also, passengers will only be allowed to check-in hand luggage smaller than 56cm by 45cm by 25cm, or thereabouts.

'It's important that passengers adhere to the hand baggage limits which apply to all UK airports,' said Mark Bullock, managing director of the airport. 'Failure to do so may lead to unnecessary delays. Passengers can find out more by visiting www.heathrowairport.com or by checking with their airline.'

He also noted that nine new security lanes would be opened to reduce the amount of time people need to spend queuing
