Tom Cruise 'rides the Valkyrie' in Berlin

23 Jul 2007

Tom Cruise stepped onto the set of his new film Valkyrie, in a forest just outside the German capital Berlin, wearing a Nazi uniform and eye-patch on Thursday. The Hollywood A-lister is portraying the German officer Colonol Claus von Stauffenberg, who led a 1944 attempt to assassinate Adolf Hitler.

Parts of Berlin and the surrounding areas have been wound back to the 1940s to recreate a genuine atmosphere for the film, with WWII-era planes seen overhead practicing various moves for the film's mid-air dog fights.

In a break from filming, Cruise flew back to Los Angeles this weekend to throw a 'Welcome to LA' party for new arrivals David and Victoria Beckham.

Attended by notables such as Will Smith and his wife Jada Pinkett Smith, the party was held at the Museum of Contemporary Art the day after Beckham made his debut for new football team LA Galaxy.

While Victoria was joined by actresses Katie Holmes and Eva Longoria in the corporate suite, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Ray Winstone and Californian governor Arnold Schwarzenegger were among those who watched LA Galaxy lose to English Premiership side Chelsea FC.
