Gatwick passengers advised to arrive early

Passengers travelling from Gatwick Airport during August have been advised to allow extra time for their journey to the UK airport, because of roadworks taking place on the M25.
Most of the work will be carried out at night to minimise disruption, but travellers have been warned that they could see road closures and diversions. Resurfacing work around junction 7, in Surrey, will be underway until 30 August.
The Highways Agency has said that the new surface will be much quieter and smoother. It also noted that any closures on slip roads, the main carriageway or the M23 link road would be fully signposted in advance, to give road users the maximum time to re-plan their journey.
Tim Lyver, project manager, explained: 'The surface needs to be replaced and we advise any members of the public heading to Gatwick during August to allow extra time.'
Gatwick Airport is the second busiest airport in the UK after Heathrow and the seventh busiest in the world, in terms of international passengers. With more than 200 destinations covered, the airport handled more than 34 million passengers and 265,000 flights in 2006.
