Flights to the Talinn, the Estonian capital, will be the most sought after by British tourists in 2008, followed by those to Accra in Ghana and Porto in Portugal, new figures from Opodo have revealed.
Destinations such as Rome, Venice, Seville, Bangkok and Hong Kong are also expected to prove extremely popular with holidaymakers next year, as are Manila in the Philippines and Bucharest, the capital of Romania.
The popularity of central European destinations in particular can be attributed to the proliferation of low-cost flights, while increased routes and flights from long haul carriers are making the possibility of exploring the Far East a reality for more people.
Since Estonia's admission into the EU in 2004, Talinn has become a lot more accessible to tourists. The old town, which dates back to at least the 12th century, is a Unesco World Heritage Site.
Beyond the city's many historical and architectural monuments, a number of top range facilities have developed in response to the city's immense popularity.
Opodo also explained the newfound appeal of Accra: 'It would seem that Accra, once a little known cosmopolitan metropolis has now been discovered.
'Opodo is the only one of the big four online travel agencies to offer flights to Accra, the capital of Ghana, and this coupled with the marketing push of the destination has meant that they can support the growing demand of visitors.'
Opodo is a leading online travel company offering flights, hotels, rental cars and holidays worldwide.
