Maritime Greenwich in London gets festive

During September, Maritime Greenwich, in south-east London, will come alive with a series of events and festivals from ranging from jazz music and street entertainments to a gruelling 22-mile boat race along the River Thames.
The Great River Race kicks off the festivities on 8 September, as coxed four-person boats race from Richmond in Surrey to Island Gardens opposite the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich.
From 15 to 16 September, London's 'Open House' weekend will offer tourists and locals the opportunity to wander around many of the city's most iconic buildings for free. In the World Heritage village of Greenwich, several historical houses, museums and entertainment centres will be open, as will several sites around the Old Royal Naval College.
On the Sunday (16), the College will also be the setting for an open air concert featuring the Boehm Clarinet Quartet and Indigo Saxophon Quartet, both of which will present an interesting programme of classical music in the landscaped grounds by the River Thames.
The famous Scottish Tea Clipper, the Cutty Sark, is normally housed in Greenwich, however it was moved out recently for renovation, during which time a fire damaged parts of the ship. It is currently being restored off site and will hopefully soon be back at its mooring in Greenwich.
