Aer Arann announces record year

22 Aug 2007

Irish airline Aer Arann, one of the fastest growing regional airlines in Europe, announced a record year on year increase in traffic this year, for flights from the UK to Cork, Waterford and Galway in Ireland.

During the first six months of 2007, traffic from UK airports to Cork rose by 32% compared with the same period last year, while Galway witnessed a 26% increase in passenger traffic and Waterford numbers rose by an impressive 56%.

Commenting on the popularity of the Emerald Isle, Tourism Ireland commented: 'We are delighted that so many travellers are taking advantage of these Aer Arann routes directly into the regions of Ireland.'

It noted that further growth was likely, going on to say: 'Ireland is without a doubt one of the finest destinations with unparalleled culture, history, countryside and coastline.'

The airline has established several new routes from the UK this year, increasing the number of flights departing from Manchester, Birmingham, Newcastle and Bristol.

In the last week of July, Aer Arann recorded its busiest ever week since beginning operations in 1998, carrying nearly 30,000 passengers.
