More Brits choosing camping holidays

22 Aug 2007

Despite the bad weather and extensive flooding this summer, there has been a sharp rise in the number of Brits choosing to take camping and caravanning holidays around the UK this summer, according a survey from Yell.com.

The research revealed a 13% rise in the number of people looking to explore the British Isles with a camping or caravanning holiday compared to last year. Hampshire was the most popular destination, followed by Glasgow in Scotland.

City dwellers were the most eager to get a change of scenery, with holidaymakers from London, Sheffield, Manchester, Birmingham and Milton Keynes the most likely to seek out greener climes.

'We have seen a big rise in interest over the past 12 months – the pressures of modern living seem to be giving people a thirst for the great outdoors,' said the Camping and Caravanning Club.

According to insurance provider Kwik-Fit, 30 million Brits will take at least one holiday within the UK this year, fuelled primarily by a desire to re-discover their own country.
