Scotland's a hit with holidaymakers

23 Aug 2007

This forthcoming bank holiday weekend will see more British travellers flying to Scotland than anywhere else, according to new figures.

British Airways expects to fly more than 20,000 people to Glasgow and Edinburgh this weekend, many more than the numbers jetting off to popular European destination like Paris, Nice or Rome.

And with the weather expected to be good throughout the weekend, many travellers are looking to take advantage of the long weekend and the summer sunshine that Britain has missed out on recently.

'The biggest conundrum for travellers this weekend is could be which destination to choose,' said Dean Yardley from British Airways.

'This bank holiday, the UK becomes a celebration of our diversity, offering family days out, parades and festivals to cater for all, and destinations that provide something not available elsewhere, no matter how far you fly.'

Glasgow is popular for its exceptional array of shops and vibrant night life, while visitors to Edinburgh can immerse themselves in the hustle and bustle of the festival and the fringe, with tickets still available for many great shows.
