Brits head for the beach this bank holiday

24 Aug 2007

Over a third of Britons are planning to motor their way to a Bank Holiday getaway this weekend, according to the AA.

A new poll reveal that the number planning to head at least 77 miles away for their August break is slightly up on last year, despite the bad weather, and nearly a third (29%) are still heading for the beach.

Brighton, Bournemouth and Blackpool are the top locations for motorists, said the AA.

'It's been a fairly unpredictable summer this year and this looks set to be the case over the Bank Holiday weekend too,' said AA's Patrol of the Year, Adam Ashmore.

'A number of major events and festivals that may cause local congestion are also scheduled to take place over the Bank Holiday weekend and there is a full programme of sporting fixtures in place; so it is always good advice to plan your route before travelling and to leave plenty of time for your journey,' he advised.
