Lyme Regis and Skye among holiday cottage hot spots
24 Aug 2007
Stratford-upon-Avon, Lyme Regis and the Isle of Skye are among the nation's favourite spots for holiday cottages.
That's according to self-catering operator Hoseasons, which analysed its booking figures and found that "each region has its areas which consistently sell first and sell best".
In the south-west, Newquay in Cornwall, Dartmouth in Devon and villages close to Bath in Somerset were found to be particularly popular.
In the south, Lyme Regis in Dorset and the New Forest in Hampshire are hot spots; in the east of England the Norfolk Broads and the Suffolk Heritage coast are popular; and Stratford-upon-Avon is a favourite in the Heart of England.
In Wales Monmouthshire and Harlech both featured on the list; in the Peak District it was Bakewell and Matlock that had holidaymaker cottage fans excited; and Silverdale, Lancashire and Whitby, Yorkshire were northern hot spots.
Finally, in Scotland the Isle of Skye, St Andrew and Loch Ness are all winners.
Hoseasons, which has a portfolio of more than 1,600 cottages around the UK, and is constantly looking for more properties in these areas.
The company's head of cottages, Tina Smith, said: 'These are the places that those looking to invest in holiday cottages should look first, if they want to maximise their returns.'
