Glasgow launches seaplane route to Scottish Highlands

A new seaplane service carrying passengers between the Scottish city of Glasgow and the West Highlands has been launched this week.
The new service, which is operated by Loch Lomand Seaplanes, makes day-trips to the spectacular mountains and lochs of Oban a possibility, reducing the two and a half hour plane ride into a 24 minute quick trip.
Steven Purcell, Glasgow City councillor, said: 'Glasgow is one of Europe's most stylish and exciting cities, but the introduction of a seaplane service opens up the possibility of experiencing the best of both city and country in one fantastic short break.'
Sydney, Seattle and Vancouver have similar services operating from the heart of the city centre, however Glasgow is the only city to have such an offering in Europe. The Cessna flights depart from the new terminal at the Glasgow Science centre.
The company is now considering a service from Glasgow to the island of Skye, which will reduce travelling time from six hours in a car to just 45 minutes.
