Lufthansa opens new London to Berlin route

31 Aug 2007

Passengers will now be able to travel from London City Airport to Berlin Tegel, thanks to a new service from Lufthansa starting in January.

The German flag carrier, the largest airline in Europe and sixth largest in the world, will operate the service twice daily between the destinations, with extra services scheduled during the summer holiday season. With the new service, there are now 78 Lufthansa flights out of London City every week.

Marianne Samman, general manager of Lufthansa UK, explained: 'With Lufthansa's new non-stop service, Europe's emerging conference and exhibition metropolis, Berlin, is now just around the corner from London's financial district and the perfect destination for this speedy service.'

The journey will take approximately one hour and forty minutes and will be operated by a BAe 146-200 jet aircraft, capable of flying up to 89 passengers.

The Lufthansa Group operates more than 400 aircraft and employs almost 100,000 people around the world. Last year, 53.4 million passengers flew with the German airline.
