Thailand hosts Open tennis tournament
31 Aug 2007
The Thailand Open, south-east Asia's most important tennis competition, will be taking place in Bangkok from 22-30 September.
The tournament is quickly gaining a worldwide reputation, and in 2007, five of the top-ten ranked male players, including Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Andy Roddick, will all be competing in the event. Thai tennis ace Paradorn Srichapan will also be competing in his home tournament.
The Thailand Open was first held in 2003, consisting of Men's Indoors Singles and Doubles events. Last year, Taylor Dent of the US won the Singles event, while Jonathan Erlich and Andy Ram, of Israel, lifted gold in the Doubles event. In both 2004 and 2005, Roger Federer won the event.
Beyond the tennis, visitors will also be able to experience the oriental allure of south-east Asia, with the beautiful beaches of the country's coast less than four hours from the capital city.
