Govt boosts tourism spend in N. Ireland
12 Sep 2007
The government has injected £10m of funding into the tourism sector in Northern Ireland's Causeway Coast region.
Among the projects that will receive financing is a watersports centre in Portrush and an initiative to place new signage on the Antrim coastal road, BBC News reports.
The new signs on this route are due to be completed in time for the 2007 visitor season and will direct visitors on a journey that takes in stunning scenery.
Kathleen McBride, the Northern Ireland Tourist Board Causeway Coast development manager, said: 'Quite a few brown and white road signs have been going up in the region recently.
'If tourists and visitors follow the route, they will see many attractions in the area - we want to keep them in the region and let them see that there's more than just the Giant's Causeway.'
The £10m of government funding is part of a £50m, ten-year 'masterplan' designed to bring about positive changes in the Northern Ireland tourism sector.
