Half of young holidaymakers 'book trips online'

24 Sep 2007

Half of all young travellers use the internet to book their holidays, according to the latest research.

A study by the World Youth & Student Educational Travel Confederation found that the proportion of young people who organise their travel online has risen from 10% to 50% in five years.

The research also found that four in five young travellers use the internet to search for information on their trip before leaving, Travelmole reports.

Australia, the US and France are reportedly the most popular destinations for young holidaymakers. Australia is also a favourite with backpackers, as are Thailand and New Zealand.

Some 80% of respondents said they gained an appreciation and tolerance of other cultures as a result of their travels.

Among the top motivations for young people to go travelling were to learn a language, study abroad, do volunteer work and explore foreign countries.
