BAA to launch Heathrow Airtrack consultation

2 Oct 2007

Airports operator BAA has announced that it will launch a community consultation on Heathrow Airtrack, its plan to connect the airport with the south-west rail network.

The proposals suggest the creation of a new rail link between Heathrow and Staines, with services to the rest of the network operating via Waterloo, Guildford and Reading.

Consultations are currently being carried out on the technical and environmental viability of the plans.

Once these have been completed, BAA will submit the proposals for discussion by local residents and other interested groups.

Mike Noakes, the company's general manager for rail, said: 'We are absolutely committed to keeping local residents informed and involved during the Heathrow Airtrack development process.

'We have a good record of working with our local communities on projects such as Terminal 5 and Heathrow East and are determined to maintain that record on Heathrow Airtrack.'

Construction of Heathrow Airtrack will not begin until 2009 at the earliest as BAA will complete two main stages of consultation before submitting a transport and works act application.
