Turkish Airlines given 4-star rating

9 Oct 2007

Turkish Airlines has been given a four-star assessment of its business following an audit by Skytrax.

This is an improvement for the carrier after it achieved a three-star ranking in a previous assessment.

The airline said that it now has a place among the world's most prestigious airlines, with only five companies ever having received a five-star rating, none of which are based in Europe.

However Temel Kotil, chief executive of Turkish Airlines, said that efforts are being made to develop customer service that could win the operator a five-star ranking in the future.

Mr Kotil also claimed that that the airline will hit its target of 20m passengers this year and achieve an improved occupancy rate of 73%.

Edward Plaisted, CEO of Skytrax, said: 'Looking at the overall Turkish Airlines quality performance, we see an airline with a relatively young fleet of aircraft, offering a good overall product quality and a company that is clearly dedicated to achieving further improvement across product and service delivery areas.'
