North-west tourism winners announced

11 Oct 2007

The fourth annual England's Northwest Tourism Awards was held this week, with a number of hotels and attractions singled out for praise.

Hosted by BBC Northwest Tonight presenter Ranvir Singh, the event was attended by tourism businesses and officials from across the region.

Among the recipients of awards were the Radisson Edwardian Hotel in Manchester, which was named large hotel of the year and Sunset Park in Hambleton, Lancashire, which won the holiday park of the year accolade.

Carlisle's Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery was named this year's best large attraction, while the visitor experience of the past 12 months was provided at the Open Championship in Wirral, Merseyside.

Felicity Goodey, chair of tourism for England's Northwest, said: 'More than 29m visitors stay with us each year now.

'Tourism contributes £10 billion to the Northwest economy. This year we swept the board in the national awards for every type of accommodation.'

Award winners based in the north-west will now represent the region in the national Enjoy England awards, which will be held in April 2008.
