Wind turbines 'to generate 10% of EMA energy'

19 Oct 2007

A spokesperson for Nottingham East Midlands airport (EMA) has outlined the hub's plans to generate 10% of its energy through wind turbines.

The EMA representative claimed that the airport is 'leading the way' by demonstrating environmental responsibility in its operations.

It was recently named the world's leading eco-friendly airport at the 2007 World Travel Awards.

'We were the first UK airport to commit to making our ground operations carbon neutral by 2012 as well as the only UK airport to have successfully retained the international environment standard ISO14001 for four years running,' the spokesperson said.

'Our 'firsts' don't stop there - we are also planning to install wind turbines on site to generate 10% of the airport's energy.'

East Midlands airport has established an environmentally friendly pier, which includes ground heating pumps and water recycling facilities, and has a goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2012.
