Weddings abroad 'becoming more popular'

24 Oct 2007

Tying the knot in a foreign country is becoming increasingly popular for Brits, according to a wedding industry expert.

Carol Richardson, PR manager for Confetti, which supplies services and products for people getting married, said that couples are interested in marrying abroad for a number of reasons, from the weather to the hassle of a home wedding.

'We've seen a huge growth in getting married abroad throughout the year for lots of reasons,' she said.

'Certainly it prevents a lot of the fuss of organising a huge wedding where all your relations are invited - lots of people are attracted to that.

'It does give a guarantee of good weather, usually - but not always.'

According to Ms Richardson the combination of holidays and nuptials is a 'huge growth area' for the industry.

With regards to particular locations that are popular for weddings, the Confetti spokesperson said that the Caribbean is 'extremely popular', as is Mauritius, an island in the Indian Ocean.
