Sydney prepares for culture fest
19 Nov 2007
The city of Sydney will host its annual celebration of creativity and culture in January, with musicians, artists, dancers, performance groups and others all gathering in south-east Australia.
A massive free party across the city will kick off proceedings on 5 January, with over 200 artists performing in five different precincts.
There will then be three weeks of culture and entertainment, with concerts from a number of major artists, including Bjork, who will perform on the steps of the Sydney Opera House.
Brian Wilson of Beach Boys fame will also be keeping the crowds happy, with a full rendition of the legendary Pet Sounds album, as will the Spanish Harlem Orchestra.
On the theatre front, there will be performances of Au Revoir Parapluie by James Thierree, one of the world's top circus performers, and Black Watch, a gritty look at the reality of the 'war on terror'.
A number of family options will make the event just as enjoyable for children as adults, including the Airvag exhibition, which sees the parks and streets of Sydney filled with colourful, interactive sculptures that glow in the dark.
