Gatwick sees more than 35m passengers in a year

21 Dec 2007

Gatwick airport handled more than 35m passengers in a year for the first time during the 12 months ending November 2007.

In November itself more than 2.15m people flew into and out of Gatwick, 6.2% more than in the same month last year.

The steepest increase of all came in Gatwick's Republic of Ireland network (15.4%), followed by its long-haul routes outside of the North Atlantic (11.7%).

Andy Flower, managing director of the airport, said: 'Gatwick's continued steady growth shows the popularity of the airport with our airlines and with our passengers.

'Our passengers have an ever increasing choice of routes as well as enjoying our excellent and improving facilities and superb transport links to central London and the rest of southern England.'

Gatwick is the second busiest airport in the UK and a major hub for holiday travellers, with the Spanish hotspots of Malaga, Alicante and Palma among its most popular destinations.
