Joburg Zoo encourages visitors to keep fit

10 Mar 2008

People on holiday in Johannesburg this year will be able to combine a trip to the city's zoo with a fitness session.

The zoo announced in its annual calendar of events that it will be organising a series of regular 'zoo trots', which will see visitors jogging around the park rather than driving.

It is hoped that the scheme will encourage people to get fit while enjoying the sights and sounds of nature and getting some fresh air.

The run, or walk for people who would prefer to take it easy, will take place every second Sunday of the month throughout the year and will be open to everyone over the age of three.

Sandra Hlungwani, Johannesburg Zoo's public relations officer, said: 'The Joburg Zoo supports a healthy lifestyle.

'If one of your new year's resolutions was to keep fit, this is an ideal opportunity for you.'

The zoo also announced that it will organise a series of moonlight tours this year, which will take place every weekday between 17:15 and 20:00, as well as myth-busting trips designed to reveal the truth about animals.
