Wildlife park opens gates in Valencia

A new tourist attraction has opened in Valencia in the form of an Africa-themed wildlife park.
Bioparc Valencia occupies 80,000 square metres of the dried-up Turia riverbed, where it recreates African landscapes and ecosystems that are home to more than 4,000 animals from 250 species.
Three different environments have been created at the park, including an African savannah, which features acacia trees and grassland roamed by giraffe, zebra, rhino, impala and many other herbivores.
Equatorial Africa provides an environment for herds of buffalo and bongo, as well as lone leopards and groups of primates and pygmy hippos.
The Madagascar zone is home to the many species that are endemic to the African island, including lemur, which visitors will be able to observe closely.
Bioparc Valencia has been set up with an environmental outlook, with its artificial lakes and rivers filled with rainwater that has been treated and heated by solar panels.
Camouflaged natural barriers have been set up to ensure that the animals feel as comfortable as possible but also to afford visitors a good view of the wildlife.
