Innsbruck looks forward to Euro 2008

18 Mar 2008

The Austrian city of Innsbruck has looked forward to the Euro 2008 football tournament that will be held in Austria and Switzerland this summer, introducing the range of features that fans will be able to enjoy.

More associated with ski-jumping and the Winter Olympic Games of 1964 and 1976, the Bergisel Arena will be the centre of the fan zone in Innsbruck.

At this venue up to 15,000 fans will be able to watch matches free of charge, with every game shown on a screen measuring 84 square metres.

Also serving visitors will be a rail network going to the Hungerburg mountains.

Here, at an altitude of almost 2,000 metres, fans will be able to watch games on screens in the Seegrube Restaurant, which will serve as one of the tournament's highest viewing points.

In the centre of Innsbruck, the official fan mile will be set up on Maria Theresien Street, in front of a mountainous backdrop and offering shopping opportunities in the Rathausgalerien.

Innsbruck will host three preliminary round matches in Euro 2008, with the final being held in Vienna.
