Aussie hotel visitors invited to take the furniture

26 Mar 2008

Stealing soap and towels from hotels has become a popular pastime among many travellers, but rarely does the establishment actively encourage its visitors to help themselves to its products.

The Novotel Cairns Oasis resort in Australia, however, will be doing exactly that this month as part of its $7m (£3.2m) refurbishment, Cairns.com reports.

Visitors will be invited to take part in the hotel's 'steal a deal' promotion, where guests will be allowed to take the entire contents of their room with them.

Philip Newland, manager of the Novotel Cairns, revealed that this was the first time the hotel had tried this approach.

'When people know you're going through a refurbishment they often come in and ask about the furniture,' he said.

'Everything in the other three towers has been auctioned off, so we thought we'd try this for the last tower.'

Guests will be invited to take whatever they want, including televisions, fridges, mini-bar contents, coffee tables and beds, although all visitors will be expected to carry their haul themselves.
