UK airline
bmi was the most punctual carrier last year between London and Edinburgh, which is the UK's busiest domestic route, according to new figures.
Statistics from the Civil Aviation Authority, compiled by Flightontime.info, show that 75% of
bmi's flights between Heathrow and Edinburgh left within 15 minutes of their planned departure time and the average delay was just over 12 minutes.
On another popular route, between London and Amsterdam,
VLM Airlines was named as the carrier with the best punctuality record, followed by
KLM and
British Airways.
US carriers dominated the list of the most punctual airlines operating between London and New York, with
American Airlines,
Delta Airlines and
Continental Airlines all appearing in the top five.
British Airways and
Virgin Atlantic were in sixth and seven positions respectively in the table, with
Kuwait Airways, MAXjet and
Air India rounding off the top ten.
Overall,
bmi regional was named the most punctual scheduled airline in the UK last year, with an average delay of less than six minutes and 90% of its flights leaving within 15 minutes of their planned departure time.
Eastern Airways took second place, while
Air Berlin,
Lufthansa and
KLM also appeared in the top ten.
