Australia targets more Canadian visitors

4 Apr 2008

Australia could soon be welcoming more visitors from Canada following a promotional event in the North American country.

'G'day Vancouver: Australia Week 2008' gets underway this weekend and is expected to promote the many characteristics of the country to Canadian travellers.

Geoff Buckley, managing director of Tourism Australia, said that the event will give people in Vancouver a chance to experience a range of aspects of Australian culture, from food and wine to art, film and entertainment.

He added: 'By 'taste-testing' Australia we hope that many more Canadians will be more motivated than ever to want to come and experience Australia first-hand.

'Climate is a big factor in driving Canadians' travel decisions having endured a long cold winter, they'll be looking forward to some sunshine and time in the outdoors so now is the time to get them thinking about holidaying in Australia.'

One of the highlights of the promotion week will be the launch of Planet Oz, an Australia-themed exhibition at Vancouver's Science World, which visitors to the Canadian city will be able to visit for the next three months.
