New York museums open doors

4 Apr 2008

Visitors to New York will be able to explore some of the city's most famous museums free of charge in June.

The Museum Mile Festival, held on 3 June, sees nine of the Big Apple's most respected learning and cultural establishments waive all entrance fees.

In what is billed as New York's biggest block party, the event also sees live bands, entertainment and activities in areas stretching from 82nd to 105th Street on Fifth Avenue.

A number of world famous museums are located in this part of New York, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Guggenheim Museum and the National Academy Museum.

Visitors interested in finding out more about New York's social and cultural diversity can also visit El Museo del Barrio, the Jewish Museum and the German Cultural Center for free on 3 June.

More than 50,000 visitors attend the festival every year and in 2008 the event will mark its 30th anniversary.
