Accommodation options boosted in Botswana

11 Apr 2008

Safari trips in Botswana are set to become an easier option for travellers this year with new accommodation being made available in the country.

Conservation Corporation (CC) Africa announced that it will open two new locations, the Xudum delta lodge and the Xarana tented camp, in August this year.

Both will be based in a private 50,000-hectare concession in the Okavango delta, which is one of Botswana's most popular regions for people on safari.

The accommodation sites will be decked out in a style to reflect the country – with decorations including paper canoes and ornamental hippos and crocodiles – and will boast amenities including plunge pools, rooftop sleeping spots and lofty hideouts for game viewing.

Steve Fitzgerald, chief executive of CC Africa, said the company will double its capacity in Botswana over the coming months and described the safari opportunities in the country as 'among the finest in southern Africa'.

The Okavango delta is the world's largest inland delta. It is the point where the Okavango river, which has no outlet to the sea, empties into the Kalahari desert, irrigating 15,000 square kilometres of the arid landscape.
