Stephen Fry show to promote Norfolk

2 May 2008

Kingdom, the TV show starring Stephen Fry, is to be used to promote the English county of Norfolk, where it is filmed.

Tourism bosses are targeting watchers of the show in Scandinavia and have launched a competition giving people the chance to win a holiday in Norfolk.

Adverts for the contest are being shown after every episode is broadcast in Sweden, Norway and Denmark on the Hallmark Channel.

Kingdom, which is based in the fictional town of Market Shipborough but filmed in Swaffham, follows the character of a solicitor, played by Fry, who handles cases brought to him by local people.

The actor and comedian said that one of the things that appealed to him about the show is that it is set in a country town, which he described as 'a much overlooked part of Britain'.

He added: 'You feel a loyalty to the place you call home, you belong to a part of the world and you think it's gorgeous – especially when it has qualities that you think are different.

'Having been raised in Norfolk, I would be delighted if in some way I could help give something back to the county, and I would encourage viewers of Kingdom – whether in this country or any other, to come and see what this unique and wonderful place has to offer.'
