New York 'a vibrant summer destination'

16 May 2008

One of the leading executives of the New York City tourism industry has described the destination as a 'vibrant' summer destination.

The Big Apple, as it is affectionately known, is renowned for becoming stiflingly hot in the summer months, but there are ways that visitors can enjoy the weather while keeping cool, according to the chief executive of NYC & Company.

George Fertitta said: 'New York City is a particularly vibrant destination for visitors in the summer – with an array of venues with outdoor components allowing visitors to enjoy the glorious weather while keeping cool – and with the added benefit of a spectacular view.

'We want to draw attention to these hidden gems that visitors may not otherwise come to hear about or stumble upon.'

While Manhattan is arguably New York City's most famous location, Mr Fertitta said that the other boroughs, such as Brooklyn, also provide plenty of opportunities for tourists.

'A fun way to get to Brooklyn is to walk across the iconic Brooklyn Bridge, which is celebrating its 125th anniversary this month,' he said.
