National tourism agency VisitBritain has outlined two promotional campaigns that it will launch for the coming summer.
Elliot Frisby, a spokesman for the agency, said that the initiatives will be aimed 'specifically' at encouraging British people to stay in their home country for holidays.
'The first, Comedy England, aims to promote destinations and locations with connections to comedy films and comedians for which this country is renowned,' Mr Frisby said.
While no specific details have been released, some of the places promoted could be related to the shows Only Fools and Horses and Fawlty Towers.
The second themed promotion, Mr Frisby revealed, will be aimed at families and launched in time for the summer holidays.
He added: 'Family Fun enters its third year with hints and tips specifically for families and recommended attractions with a definite value for money theme.'
According to the Association of Leading Visitor Attractions, Blackpool Pleasure Beach was Britain's top tourist hotspot in 2007, with around 5.5m visitors, followed by the Natural History Museum (3.6m) and the Tower of London (2m).
