Towels on beds 'most annoying thing about holidays'
20 May 2008
The trend of tourists getting up early to reserve sunbeds by placing their towels on them is still a source of irritation for many holidaymakers, according to research.
A new survey reveals that this phenomenon is not only an issue between British and German tourists, but is in fact an international trend.
Professor Kevin Nield of Sheffield Hallam University completed a research programme on consumer satisfaction on the Greek island of Rhodes.
Some 2,000 holidaymakers responded to a survey and the most common complaint voiced related to other tourists reserving sun loungers.
Professor Nield said: 'We all think it's a joke but it's not.
'It's a real annoyance to holidaymakers of all nationalities British, German, French and Italian alike.'
The respondents to the survey were positive about Rhodes itself, however, with three quarters of people saying that the island's most attractive features are its culture and scenic beauty.
