Families are being encouraged to go on holiday this summer because it aids bonding and strengthens the family unit, according to the Family Holiday Association (FHA).
While an increasing number of families may think they cannot afford a break this year due to the credit crunch, they are urged to go on vacation as it is a great way to improve family life.
John McDonald, the director of the FHA, said: "All the feedback that we have got indicates that a holiday makes for happier, stronger families. The single biggest impact a holiday can have from the referrer's point of view is an improvement in mental health."
With parents spending more time at work, family holidays are an ideal time to reconnect with children and enjoy quality free time.
"From the family's perspective, the single biggest improvement is simply spending time together and bonding. So a holiday, as we all know intuitively, is good for you," said Mr McDonald.
Research by moneysupermarket.com revealed that 29% of British holidaymakers may travel outside Europe this year.
