Delta continues expansion into South America

2 Jun 2008

Delta Airlines has continued its expansion into South America with the launch of services to Georgetown, Guyana.

The carrier began a new non-stop flight to the destination from New York JFK airport on 1 June.

Guyana is the third smallest country in mainland South America and is located on the Atlantic coast, north of the equator and east of Venezuela.

As one of the few countries on the continent that does not speak Spanish as its first language, Guyana shares a number of cultural characteristics with English-speaking Caribbean countries.

Christophe Didier, Delta's vice-president of sales for Latin America, said: 'We continue to add destinations departing out of New York's JFK, expanding the worldwide reach of this growing Delta hub.

'In addition to flying now to Guyana, soon we will begin a new non-stop service to Bogota, Colombia, increasing to 18 the number of destinations between JFK and Latin America and the Caribbean.'

Delta offers flights and connections to a total of 305 destinations in 58 countries.
