Stansted wins award for environmental work

2 Jun 2008

London Stansted airport has won an award to recognise its positive environmental work following its success in encouraging passengers to use public transport.

Airport representatives picked up the accolade at the International Transport Forum in Leipzig, Germany.

The award acknowledged the fact that Stansted has put measures in place to allow 44% of its arriving and departing passengers to use bus, coach or rail services to get to and from the airport.

People travelling through Stansted can access more than 550 bus and coach departures every day to over 60 destinations across the UK, as well as regular rail services.

Nick Barton, the airport's strategy and solutions director, said: 'As a major international airport, we recognise that we have a responsibility to encourage as many passengers as possible to use public transport.

'I feel this award is well deserved and is recognition for all the hard work that is taking place at Stansted to ensure we continue to lead the way with best practice in the industry.'

Stansted hosts flights to destinations such as Bergen, Antalya and New York provided by carriers including Turkish Airlines, Norwegian and American Airlines.
