The first phase of
British Airways' transfer of its long-haul flights to Terminal 5 at London Heathrow got off to a smooth start this morning (5 June), according to reports.
Flights from Lagos in Nigeria and New York were the first to make the move from Terminal 4 to the new facility and both landed on time at 05:55 and 06:25 respectively.
A spokesman for the airline told the Press Association that, following the good start to the transfer, staff were hoping for a 'trouble-free day'.
He added: 'We have more than enough staff to cope. Passengers from the first flight were through in just seven minutes.
'We have staff at Terminal 4 in case some people got there for their flight, although we have been in contact with passengers and travel agents telling them about the transfer.'
A total of 15 flights are set to move to Terminal 5 today, including services to Bangalore, Cairo, Phoenix, Cape Town and Beijing.
BA's remaining 45 long-haul operations will make the transfer to the new terminal in two phases in September and October.
