The Asian city-state of Singapore has enjoyed success at this year's Airline Industry Awards hosted by the Official Airline Guide (OAG).
At a ceremony hosted at London's Bloomsbury Ballroom on 4 June,
Singapore Airlines was crowned the airline of the year for the sixth time and Singapore Changi was named the best airport.
Singapore Airlines overcame competition from
Emirates,
British Airways,
Lufthansa and
American Airlines to win its award.
Alan Glass, chief executive of OAG, said: 'This is a very special night for Singapore. Our congratulations go to the airline, the airport, the government and the people of Singapore.
'The level of service and innovation that
Singapore Airlines and Singapore Changi have consistently offered the travelling public is reflected by the way OAG subscribers, the world's frequent fliers, have voted.'
Other winners on the night included
Qantas (best Australasian airline),
Virgin Atlantic (best western European airline) and
Air New Zealand (best transpacific airline).
The outstanding service award was given to the
Air Canada customer service team based at Heathrow airport, for the work they have done in helping the lives of children in South Africa.
