Birmingham international airport has announced that it is investing £2m to improve the traffic flow and parking arrangements at its base.
Prompted by last year's security alert at Glasgow airport, the work will focus on developing the system used by drivers dropping off and collecting passengers.
One project has already been completed the creation of a 'drop and go' facility that can be used by drivers who are dropping people off and do not need to park.
Richard Gill of Birmingham airport said: 'The investment we have made, to the 'drop and go' facility in particular, will help access, safety and speed of dropping people at the airport and we urge drivers to only use the 'drop and go' facility for dropping-off passengers only, and to use the multi-storey car parks for collecting people.'
Drivers who are picking up passengers can also wait for free, for up to an hour, in the surface long-stay car park number one.
Birmingham airport recently announced that it handled some 877,232 passengers in May, breaking all previous records for the month, with new flights to destinations including Warsaw and Hurghada aiding the growth.
