Belfast international airport announced this week that it had rolled out a number of new services for passengers with disabilities and reduced mobility.
The changes were made ahead of the introduction of new EU legislation on 26 July that will make airport operators responsible for providing all ground services for passengers with reduced mobility.
Belfast international airport said that it had been working closely with airlines since the initial EU announcement in July 2006 to develop solutions that were both practical and beneficial.
Operations manager Rod Haskins said: 'After a six-month tender process we awarded Interserve the contract to manage services at Belfast and they successfully took over at the beginning of June, two months ahead of the EU legislation deadline.
'Interserve has a team of specially trained staff to deal with passengers who require this service. Those passengers needing assistance will continue to request assistance through their airline or travel agent (recommended at time of booking). Those details will then be passed through to Interserve to facilitate on the day of travel through Belfast International.'
