Krakow celebrates classical music

6 Aug 2008

Holidaymakers heading to Poland may want to consider booking their trip around a spectacular classical music festival being held in Krakow.

The event, known as the Sacrum-Profanum Festival, is a celebration of 19th and 20th century classical music with this year's theme focusing heavily on German composers.

Music enthusiasts are invited to head to the city from 13 to 21 September where concerts will be held at a number of different venues.

Among the acts so far confirmed are Frankfurt's Modern Ensemble, the London Sinfonietta, the Theatre of Voices and the Asko Ensemble.

In the past, most of the action has taken place at the city's former Tadeusz Sendzimir Steel Mill, a large industrial area in Krakow's district of Nowa Huta, although the exact location of the concerts has not yet been confirmed.

Poland remains a popular destination with holidaymakers jetting out of the UK as it is a relatively cheap European city to visit.
