More than 2.6m people visited Vietnam during the first seven months of the year, it has been announced.
Local news agency VNA reported that according to General Statistics Office information, this is a 10.6% rise on year-on-year figures.
Vietnam is likely to experience another tourism boost next year as it is the host country for the 2009 ASEAN Tourism Forum.
Last year's conference was held in Thailand and reportedly attracted more than 60m visitors to the country.
Vietnam's deputy minister of culture, sports and tourism, Tran Chien Thang, told the news agency that this is the first time Vietnam has held such a large-scale event, which is expected to see 1,500 international delegates attend.
Vietnam has a target of attracting five million international visitors a year, which Mr Thang said, is something it is working hard towards.
To reach the figure, "the tourism sector will simplify international travel business procedures and strengthen land tourism cooperation with its neighbours, Laos and Cambodia", he added.
