First Qantas A380 heads to Toulouse
2 Sep 2008
The first Airbus A380 set to be used by Qantas departed Hamburg, Germany for Toulouse, France over the weekend to undergo final checks before being delivered to the airline.
After the tests are carried out by Airbus, the 450-seat aircraft will be delivered to Qantas on September 19th before arriving in Sydney on September 21st.
The first commercial journey of the Qantas A380 will take place between Melbourne and Los Angeles on 20 October.
Australia's flag-carrying airline, which will become only the second carrier after Singapore Airlines to use the A380 commercially, has a total of 20 superjumbos on order.
The A380 connection between Melbourne and Los Angeles will be part of Qantas' growing commitment to its North American services.
It was recently announced that the airline will commence extended codeshare relationships with Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air that will provide improved connections to new destinations in the United States.
