Terminal 5 becomes T-Mobile Wi-Fi hotspot

3 Sep 2008

Mobile network operator T-Mobile has announced a partnership with BAA that will turn Terminal 5 at London Heathrow airport into the company's largest Wi-Fi hotspot in the UK.

Passengers at Terminal 5 will now be able to use their laptops, mobiles and personal digital assistants to gain 'fast and reliable' access to the internet.

T-Mobile customers will also be able to access Wi-Fi services at Heathrow's other terminals, while travellers who are not with T-Mobile will be able to make use of the Terminal 5 hotspot at a cost of £5 for one hour or £10 for 24 hours.

Ian Denchfield, head of commercial telecoms at BAA, said: 'BAA has a long-standing relationship with T-Mobile, together consistently meeting passengers' expectations to ensure up-to-the-minute technology for travellers.

'Seamless internet connectivity is an important part of our commitment to innovation and will form a key element in the future of travel.'

The new Terminal 5 hotspot, which spans an area equivalent to 50 football pitches, is expected to prove particularly useful for business travellers.

T-Mobile is the largest provider of public Wi-Fi in the world, with over 1,000 hotspots in the UK and 27,000 worldwide.
